ABSTRACT: In the footballuniverse, (auto)biographiesnarratethe livesof playerswho have left their mark onan era, a team, or even the history of a country. In the presentanalysis, we have chosenthe biography O Menino Rei, which tells the story of Reinaldo, one of the great idols of Clube Atlético Mineiro (a professional footballclub basedin the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil). While relying on Patrick Charaudeau’s(2015,2016)Sémiolinguistique Théorie(a French linguistic theory), we analyzed the act of language, the discourse circumstances, and the Modes of Discourse Organization. Additionally, we worked with the concept of biographical space coinedby Arfuch (2010). Our results show that the piece we analyzed exhib-its characteristicsinherent to the biography genreand, more specifically, that the authors successfully combine thesefeatures with what is presumably expected from a work intended for their desired audience.
